The horizon we are called to.
During the long grim period of Dave’s illness, I relied on beauty to keep my balance, so I could go on. Later I stumbled into John O’Donohue’s teachings on grief and on beauty, which put into words what I had felt intuitively:
“…in times when it’s been really difficult … if you can keep some kind of little contour that you can glimpse sideways at, now and again, you can endure great bleakness.”
