The labyrinth near Shell Beach is one of my favorite photo locations. Unknown visitors sculpted its spirals from the bluffs above the ocean. People from near and far bring tiny offerings to those they’ve lost. Shells, painted stones, figurines, feathers, marbles--all imbued with memories I can only guess at. It’s different every time I visit. 

This time, I found a small bundle of leaves, along with a tenderly wrapped handful of grass. A testament to whom? 

Offering is part of my “Emergence” portfolio, which traces my journey out of the depths of grief, through acceptance and into new life. This series won an Honorable Mention in the 19th Annual Julia Margaret Cameron Awards.
