In years past, I never imagined that a day hike would seem a nearly impossible goal. But three years ago I began to collapse unexpectedly when I stood up and took a few steps. I became increasingly disabled, hobbling on a cane and in great pain. It’s now been two years since the first of two hip surgeries.
