Journeying into rest.
In Consolations, the poet and philosopher David Whyte speaks of five stages of rest. A year after leaving a very stressful job, I’m up to the second phase: “… the sense of slowly coming home, the physical journey into the body’s un-coerced and un-bullied self, as if trying to remember the way or even the destination itself.” This image of the California oak savanna speaks to me of rest and a life cycle that will continue regardless of my efforts.
