Charming God.
In Northern California’s micro-seasons, late February is yellow season. I cut some daffodils to bring inside today, and yellow acacias bloom along the roadsides as an augur of pollen season. In the vineyards, a riot of mustard flowers between the vines. I’ve been told that mustard sends down strong deep roots that aerate the soil without turning it over, making it an ideal companion plant to ensure water and other nutrients reach the roots of cultivars. Van Gogh offered a more spiritual interpretation: “Yellow is capable of charming God.”
