“Spread over us your sanctuary of peace.”

Leaves are sprouting throughout the domed crown of the coast live oaks, creating protected spaces of peace and shelter. They remind me of the Hashkiveinu, the second prayer following the central Sh’ma prayer in the Jewish morning service. The Hashkiveinu asks for a peaceful night under God’s protection, and a return to life the next day.
